Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Full Black Limited Edition SRQ045

The name Speedtimer has a strong presence in the history of Seiko. It refers to multiple timepieces of the past and present, and in general, to the brand’s background in sports timing. More precisely, Speedtimer brings back memories of a watch that was at the top of innovation in 1969, as it was equipped with one of the earliest automatic chronographs, calibre 6139. In 2021, the Japanese brand resurrected the name for a bold duo of mechanical chronographs. The Speedtimer is now becoming a classic in the brand’s portfolio, and today, it gets a full-black, sporty look with the new reference SRQ045.

For the occasion of this limited edition, the case has been fully coated in black with the brand’s hard coating. It is found on all elements – case, bezel, crown/pushers and case-back – and gives the watch a slightly mean look. It also visually reduces the size of the case and does make the elements of the dial pop more. The case is 100m water-resistant and equipped with a sapphire crystal.

Under the see-through case-back is the in-house calibre 8R46, with its column-wheel and vertical-clutch architecture. This movement runs at 4Hz and stores 45 hours of power reserve. It features a lightweight escapement made thanks to MEMS technology.
